Short-term visiting PhD students

As part of a scheme to promote international cooperation and the dissemination of knowledge, grants are made available to cover 3-10 month research and study visits for international PhD students at Estonian universities under fully accredited PhD studies’ programmes regardless of the speciality.

Eligibility requirements
  • The candidate must reside in a country other than Estonia and must be enrolled in a doctoral programme offered by an educational institution recognised by that country’s authorities.
  • The candidate must not be enrolled as a student in a higher education institution of Estonia when the application is submitted.
  • The candidate must resume studies in his/her home country after the end of the grant period.

The application on behalf of a candidate must be submitted by the host university which must also cover the expenses related to the Visiting Student’s study and research.

Funding arrangements
  • The student will receive a monthly grant (384 €) for the duration of the student’s stay at the university .
  • The student will receive a travel grant for a return trip from the student’s place of residence to Estonia.
  • The student will receive an additional a grant to cover the cost of the health insurance for the period spent in Estonia, and the stamp duty payable on the residence permit
  • The student will receive a supplementary relocation allowance for the duration of student`s stay at the university (for rental and additional travel costs).
