Specific requirements depend on the higher education institution requirements and on your speciality. Specific requirements may include entrance examinations, an interview, or minimum marks on the secondary-level school-leaving certificate.

Usually, the required documents for application are:

  • Completed application form;
  • Certified copy of degrees/qualifications giving access to higher education;
  • Academic transcript(s);
  • Statement of purpose (explaining the motivation for applying);
  • Three or four photos;
  • Copy of the identification pages from the passport.

Some universities also require a copy of the TOEFL or other recognised test score report form and a letter (or two letters) of recommendation.

Often, students applying for graduate studies in Estonia must, additionally, submit a letter addressed to the Head of the Department in which the candidate describes his or her subjects of interest, motives, and plans for study. Some universities require that students applying for graduate studies contact the professor they would like to have supervising their studies.

Entrance examinations usually include an English test, as mentioned above, and an interview. Other examinations or practical tasks depend upon the chosen speciality. There are also higher education institutions that do not require entrance examinations or interviews from international applicants at all - for example, the Estonian University of Life Sciences.

All prospective international students should contact their respective International Office for more detailed information before mailing their application materials.

Exchange and visiting students should also contact the appropriate office at their home university.
